Elderberry Elixir

Today, before heading home from work, I found a patch of Elder trees that were in full ripe fruit! I collected a few clusters of fruit into my falling apart cowgirl hat.

I promptly brought them home, removed berries from the stems and mashed them in a jar with a couple of spoonfuls of Rocky Mountain wildflower honey, from Lyons, (local honey!) and then topped off with brandy. I borrowed the recipie, roughly, from Kiva.

mmmmmm....fresh elderberry brandy elixir! Nothing better! Now I better get to work on doing something with my wild plums!

were you able to make something with the ones you did find? Funny how so many elders live onthe side of the roads....protecting what lays beyond no doubt.
