Roses: Medicine for the Heart

Seems like it is rose week in herb land. My good herbalist friend Kiva just did a fabulous post on roses here.
Me myself and I have been guzzling a delicious rose elixir made my Kiva to soothe my broken heart. And today, a friend and I had a rose herbal goodie making heyday!

We started with rose infused jojoba oil, made with the sweetest, most fragrant organic pink rose blossoms.
We also made a rose HIP syrup and a rose flower syrup! Two rose syrups, for whatever suits your mood.

Rose petal syrup
1 c roses, dried
2 c water
1 c sugar

steep roses in just boiled water for 30-45 min. Strain and simmer liquid down to 1 c. To the warm liquid, add 1 c sugar and mix with a wooden spoon until sugar is dissolved.
Sweet, fragrant and downright amazing...i dont even want to put it on anything, it tastes so good just straight out of the bottle!

Rose Hip Syrup

3 oz rose hips
2 c water
1 c sugar

simmer rose hips in water for at least an hour, and strain. Reduce liquid to one cup. Add sugar and dissolve throughly in hot tea. This is a lovely fruity syrup full of vitamins and antioxidants and rose goodness, but less fragrant and more tart than the flower syrup. This would make a delicious base for a cough syrup with thyme, hyssop, elecampane, elder flowers and cherry bark.

Either syrup would cool and soothe a hot and irritated sore throat, or hot and angry temperment. Or soothe a broken heart with cool loving hands. Don't forget the roses!

WOW can't wait to try this! Broken heart? I hope all is well, sending you some good energy. Wish I was there, I would offer a free massage.
Blessings!
