Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day! Perhaps your town is having a celebration? Good! My celebration...i'm going to the mountains to commune with plants and the trees and the birds and the bees.

Give back to Gaia today, in some fashion or another. Remember your MOTHER!
Here in the desert wildflowers are almost gone, yet we continue flowering!! The mesquite trees are putting out honey sweet flowers that hang in creamy long catkin-like clusters, which will mature into delicious bean pods! The Palo Verde trees are blooming, with bright yellow blossoms setting the branches ablaze in color. The prickly pear and chollas are blooming...oh my...cactus flowers I think are my favorite flower, for looks. They are soooo sensual, so lush, and so SOFT, on such a spiny plant. They come in yellow, and pink, and red...and oh they are lovely!! Prickly Poppies are also out, their papery white flowers atop the greyish spiky thistle like plant.....

I even saw the first Saguaro flowers!! It is really early for those, which usually come out in June!
We're moving into early summer, the early summer drought, the hot, the dry, and the difficult. We have many more than four seasons here in the desert, it is more like 6. Spring, from February to April, Early Summer from May to July, Monsoon Summer from July to September, and Late summer (hot and dry again!) from September to October. Fall from october to November is like spring, mild and lovely, with less flowers, and winter, yes we do have winter, and it even freezes sometimes, From December to January....
